In my devotions this morning from Luke 6:43-48, I was reminded that what we store up inside of us will be what comes out in our words and actions. I am challenged to be intentional about storing up the good and positive bits of life that come my way, rather than storing up anything discouraging or negative. As Luke explains it, "it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks". My desire is to have an abundance of joy, peace, gratitude, grace and hope stored up in my heart so that my mouth will speak these things to others. God is always good and faithful. God will always provide encouragement and love to us. We can always see God at work in our world and our lives, if we have the eyes to see it. If you spent some time considering what you store up inside of you, what do you think you'd find? Are you holding onto the positives or negatives that come into your life day by day? If we have not done such a great job at storing up the positives, we can start doing better today. What do you want to store up in yourself so that you can then share it with others? Take some time to pray about this and see that work that God can do in you! Blessings, Pastor Shannon
It may be disappointing to lose an hour of sleep tonight, but now it won't be dark at 5:00pm! See you an hour earlier tomorrow morning. 😀🌞
Tomorrow we begin the season of Lent, where the Church around the world will spend 40 days preparing for the celebration of Resurrection Sunday (Easter). Observing Lent means either giving up or taking up something in your every day life in order to make more room for God and to grow deeper in your faith. In giving up something (fasting), we are recognizing our dependence on God above all else. However much we crave that chocolate or coffee, we should be craving God's will and presence in our lives even more. Fasting from Netflix or Facebook leaves us with large amounts of open time that we could be spending directly with God, or sharing our time with others in a meaningful way. Taking away one meal a day leaves us with hunger pangs that serve as a reminder that we need God even more than food and other creature comforts. Abstaining from complaints, criticism and angry words brings to light how much we may be bringing others down instead of lifting them up. Lent can also be a time where we take something up that will draw us closer to God. If you don't spend time daily in prayer and reading Scripture, this is a perfect time to add that into your routine. Do you serve in your local church in some way? Or do you volunteer outside of church? This may what God is calling you to add in during this time. Do you have relationships that have been neglected and need new life breathed into them? You can spend time connecting with others in all sorts of ways during Lent. Or maybe you need to challenge yourself to tell others about Jesus and/or invite them to church. Whatever your Lenten practice may be, I pray this will be a time of renewed commitment, of a closer relationship with God, of powerful insights and wisdom in your life, of deeper love for others and growth within you, and of an awakening to our complete dependence on God. What will you do with the Lenten season? What will you give up or take up? Lent begins tomorrow. May your season be filled with blessing! Grace and peace to you, friends.
Church family- don't forget we will be worshipping with our friends at First Church on Ash Wednesday. I hope to see you there!
As we have been preaching through the Gospel of John, we have challenged everyone to read one chapter a day. Being in God's Word draws us closer to God, grows our faith, and develops our personal relationship. I encourage you today to keep going. And if you haven't done so well, you can start today. God is always ready to pour into our lives.
Hello friends. Our neighbors at Oak Park Elementary are hosting a family fun night sponsored by their PTA. The event is this Friday from 6:30-8:30. They need some volunteers to come and help with games and food, etc. If some of you are free this would be a great opportunity to love on some folks from our community. I am putting a link in here that you can use to sign-up. Also, if you need help, just let me know. If you sign up, please let me know as well, and wear your Revive shirt if you have one. You are loved. -Pastor Daryle https://m.signupgenius.com/#!/showSignUp/60b0845abaf2daaf49-family1
